Lisbon to Ericeira Transport
Ericeira is popular beach resort 45km to the north west of Lisbon. Ericeira makes for a great beach resort that offers stunning scenery, wonderful beaches and a traditional laid-back atmosphere. The other advantage of the resort is that it is not too far from Lisbon and the main international airport of Portugal. Lisbon and Ericeira are connected by a reliable and inexpensive bus service and this guide will detail how to travel to Ericeira from Lisbon and Lisbon Airport by car and bus.
Lisbon to Ericeira by Car
The easiest means to reach Ericeira is by rental car. The 40km journey is along fast and empty express roads, the only downside is that they are tolled. The route heads north from Lisbon along the A8 and then west on the A21. The junction of the A8 and A21 is junction 5 and the A21 leads directly to the outskirts of Ericeira.
Lisbon to Ericeira by Public Transport
Ericeira is connected to Lisbon by express coach service that departs from Campo Grande bus station. The bus service is operated by Mafrense and their buses depart from stands 4 and 5. This service is operated like a standard bus service with tickets purchased from the bus driver and there is no means to reserve seats. There are many services throughout the day with the first at 7:00 and last at 22:00 (check timetables for exact seasonal variations).
There is a minimum of one service every hour but during the peak season there are many more a single adult ticket cost €5.50. There are two service express (85minutes) and standard the express (120minutes), the standard routes has many more stops and does not follow the express route so is not recommend. Campo Grande bus station is attached to Campo Grande Metro station that is served by both the yellow and green lines.
From Lisbon Airport to Ericeira
Lisbon is a fantastic city and for those visitors without pre book accommodation should serious consider spending a couple of days here before rushing off to surf at Ericeira. For those visitors who will be taking public transport ensure that your flight arrives before 17:00 to allow for connections and travel time. The airport is connected to the red metro line and the bus station is at Campo Grande on either the yellow or green metro line, it is very easy to get to the bus station from the airport.
Bus tickets can not be pre-booked so there maybe waiting around especially if traveling late or on public holidays. Airport transfers to Ericeira can be pre-booked via the internet for approximately €50-65 but hiring a taxi from the airport will be very expensive. For visitors who will be collecting a rental car from the airport be warned that the airport exits directly on the 2nd circular one for Portugal's busiest roads, after the A8 is joined the journey is much easier.
